S&H got on the board first with a quick shot from the left wing that beat Kirkaldy at 10:31. Three minutes later, Joe Blom streaked down the left lane, skated around a defenseman, cut across the crease and beat S&H goalie Kelsey Haley 5-hole. At 4:54, BSG forward Craig Sorochin punched a shot past Haley to put the Maroon up 2-1. Sorochin was assisted by Steve Schmitz.
The second period was a defensive struggle, with each team getting quality scoring chances. S&H scored the only goal of the period at 11:32 to knot the game at 2.
BSG came out, firing on all cylinders, in the third. Taylor Hoelscher found twine at 13:15 when he wristed a shot from high in the slot that beat Haley long-side. BSG scoring continued at 7:47 when Jeremy Thompson executed a give-and-go with Adam Ghering that resulted in Ghering slipping the puck by Haley to put the Battlestars up 5-2. Thirty seconds later, Hoelscher would score again off a pretty feed from Schmitz.
